You are invited to interact in the playing garden, either at home alone, or directly onto this web page.
Begin by sitting or
lying down, closing your eyes, and listening to some soothing music such as a
Mozart sonata or Carlos Nakai flute music. Let yourself melt into the sound.
Then remember an experience in the wild, or at the shore, or in the desert in
which you experienced upliftment through an encounter with a spirit friend--an
event that filled you with the same joy and love Luce experienced in Chapters
One and Two in Offer Me a Flower. Now, remember a time when you began to
harbor doubts about your life, espcially in light of your spiritual experience.
Like Luce in Chapter Three, you realize it is difficult for you to relate to
the world in the way you'd become accustomed. You're not sure what your purpose
is in life. You're wondering if your daily life is lacking in spiritual
meaning, as in the following excerpt from Offer Me a Flower: "What's wrong, Child?" "What am I going to do? I can't go on studying counseling anymore." * * * |
|
Still listening to the soothing sounds of Mozart or Nakai, go through the following visualization: Start in the morning after waking and imagine yourself going through a normal day. With each task you perform--cooking, mowing the lawn, caring for your family, performing tasks at work-- imagine that everything you touch and everyone you come in contact with, are aspects of God or Mother. While you cook, type, or deal with customers or take care of your family, imagine that you are an instrument of God or Mother. After you have practiced this mental excercise in visualization form, practice it during the day while you work or while with your family at home. |
"Daughter, just imagine that your clients are me. When you show them kindness and understanding, know that you are doing it for me." The Mother looked at me; her eyes were a bottomless well reflecting millions of drowning souls crying to be saved. "I am in everyone who will come to you. By serving them you will also serve me." |

In a paragraph or two, write about your experiences in your visualization and during the day. How did it feel to see everything and everyone as God or Mother? How did feel to imagine yourself as an instrument of the Divine? Tell all the details of your experiences. As in the previous two excercises, allow the telling to be childlike and innocent and free. If you start to loose your tender feelings, stop writing--close your eyes, listen to the music again, and remember your visualization. |
